Common Questions

We believe great primary care should be simple, transparent, and accessible — no insurance mazes, no hidden fees. Find answers to the questions we hear most often below.

About the Practice

What is Rowe Adult Health NP, PLLC?

Rowe Adult Health NP, PLLC is a telehealth-first, cash-pay primary care practice serving adults throughout New York State. Founded on the belief that primary care should be straightforward and accessible, we offer comprehensive, ongoing care without the friction of insurance billing. You get a direct relationship with your provider, clear pricing, and appointments that fit your life — all from wherever you are in New York State.

Who can become a patient?

We welcome adults (18 and older) who are residents of New York State. Because we practice via telehealth, there’s no need to live near a physical office — if you have a phone, tablet, or computer and a reliable internet connection, you’re eligible to become a patient. We see patients with a wide range of health needs, from those seeking routine preventive care to those managing ongoing chronic conditions.

What is a nurse practitioner — can they be my primary care provider?

A nurse practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice registered nurse with graduate-level clinical training, authorized to diagnose conditions, order and interpret tests, manage treatments, and prescribe medications. In New York State, NPs practice with full authority to provide comprehensive primary care. Many patients choose an NP as their primary care provider and find the relationship highly personalized, thorough, and attentive.

Telehealth Visits

How does a telehealth visit work?

Telehealth visits take place over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform — no special software to download. Once your appointment is scheduled, you’ll receive a link to join at your appointment time. Your visit feels much like a traditional office visit: we’ll talk through your health concerns, review your history, and develop a care plan together, all from the comfort of your home.

What do I need for a telehealth appointment?

You’ll need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone, plus a reliable internet connection. A quiet, private space where you can speak freely makes for the best experience. If you have home health tools like a blood pressure cuff, thermometer, or pulse oximeter, have them handy — but they’re not required for every visit.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person care?

For the vast majority of primary care needs, yes. Research consistently shows that telehealth delivers equivalent outcomes for conditions like chronic disease management, medication refills, mental health check-ins, and preventive care discussions. While certain situations — like a physical injury or procedure — may require an in-person visit, we’ll always let you know if an in-person referral is the right next step.

Cash-Pay & Pricing

Why don’t you accept insurance?

Opting out of insurance allows us to keep our focus entirely on you — not on billing codes, prior authorizations, or insurance company requirements. Without the overhead of insurance administration, we can offer transparent, all-inclusive pricing and spend more time providing thoughtful care. You always know exactly what you’re paying, with no surprise bills after the fact.

How does cash-pay primary care work?

It’s straightforward: you pay a transparent, flat rate for your visit at the time of service — no co-pays, deductibles, or insurance denials to navigate. Our pricing is designed to be fair and predictable so you can make informed decisions about your care. Many patients find that cash-pay primary care is comparable in cost to what they were already spending out-of-pocket under insurance.

Do you accept FSA/HSA payments?

Yes — our services are eligible for payment using Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA). This means you can use pre-tax dollars to cover the cost of your visits, making cash-pay primary care even more affordable. If you have an FSA or HSA card, you can use it just like any other debit card at the time of payment.

How do I find out about pricing?

We believe in full transparency around cost. Our current pricing tiers are available on our New Patients page, and we encourage you to review them before scheduling. There are no hidden fees — what you see is what you pay. If you have questions about which visit type is right for your needs, don’t hesitate to reach out before booking.

Services

What services do you offer?

We provide comprehensive primary care for adults, including preventive wellness visits, chronic disease management, medication management, lab ordering and review, health screenings, and specialist referrals. Our goal is to be your first call for most health concerns, handling a wide scope of needs in one convenient, ongoing relationship — no waiting rooms, no rushed appointments.

Can you manage chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, or thyroid disease?

Absolutely. Chronic condition management is a core part of what we do. Whether you’re living with diabetes, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, or other ongoing health conditions, we provide regular monitoring, medication management, lab review, and personalized guidance to help you stay on track. Telehealth makes it easier to stay consistent with your care without the logistical hurdles of frequent office visits.

Can you order lab work?

Yes. We can order lab work through major national lab networks, which means you can get your blood drawn at a convenient location near you. We’ll review your results and discuss them with you at a follow-up visit or through our patient messaging system. Lab costs are separate from visit fees and are typically billed directly by the lab — we’ll help you navigate your options.

Do you provide referrals to specialists?

Yes. When a situation calls for specialist expertise — cardiology, endocrinology, dermatology, or another specialty — we’ll provide a referral and help coordinate your care. We believe in a collaborative approach to health: we remain your primary care provider and partner throughout, ensuring continuity even when you’re seeing other providers.

Getting Started

How do I become a new patient?

Getting started is simple. Visit our New Patients page, review the information about our practice and pricing, and complete the new patient intake form. Once we’ve received your information, we’ll be in touch to confirm your eligibility and schedule your first visit. The whole process is designed to be fast, straightforward, and paperwork-light.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Once you’re established as a patient, you can schedule appointments online through our patient portal. We offer appointment times designed to fit working adults’ schedules, including options outside of traditional 9-to-5 hours. You’ll receive a confirmation and a secure link to join your telehealth visit in advance.

What should I have ready for my first visit?

For your first visit, please have a list of your current medications (including dosages), any known allergies, a summary of relevant past medical history, and any recent lab results or records you’d like us to review. The more context you can share, the more productive and personalized your visit will be. Don’t worry if you don’t have everything — we’ll build your health picture together over time.

Prescriptions & Medications

Can you prescribe medications?

Yes. As a licensed nurse practitioner in New York State, we have full prescriptive authority and can prescribe medications electronically to your preferred pharmacy. This includes medications for acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and preventive care. Prescriptions are sent directly to your pharmacy, so you can pick them up at your convenience.

Can you manage my existing prescriptions?

Yes. If you’re transitioning from another provider and have existing prescriptions, we can review your medications, continue appropriate treatments, and make adjustments as needed based on your current health status. We ask that new patients bring a complete medication list to their first visit so we can ensure a smooth, safe handoff of your care.
